Quando o sotaque atrapalha o romance... (by Medeia)

Eu assumo ter uma certa adoração por música em geral. Não só na sua forma convencional (letra e melodia), mas pela musicalidade presente nas palavras, no ritmo das frases, na entonação que pode dar significados àquilo que desejamos transmitir... E tenho certa obsessão por sotaques. Não sei se é uma coisa de linguísta (embora ache que a cara Calipso concorde comigo), mas sou fascinada em perceber como uma mesma língua pode mudar tanto de uma região para outra. 

Alguns textos acadêmicos abordam isso de forma chata e pedante, como se tratar de algo tão rico como a variação linguística pudesse ser confinado à teorias e nomenclaturas, sem ter aquele toque vivo e pulsante que  é a língua em toda sua beleza.

Então, para dividir com vocês essa minha fascinação linguísta-musical, deixo o vídeo da música "Let's call the whole thing off", composta por George e Ira Gershwin em 1937 e interpretada adoravelmente por Louis Armstrong e Ella Fitzgerald no vídeo abaixo. A música tem uma forma interessante de mostrar diferentes sotaques e como isso influencia no relacionamento do casal - será que eles vão aprender a lidar com essas diferenças?
